Two houses have been collapsed by a landslide at Koforidua -Aboabo whiles 15 houses have collapsed following floods in some parts of the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern Region .
This is the second time the regional capital has been hit with twin disaster, Landslide and flood .
The landslide which occurred at Aboabo, a community near Koforidua carried heavy rocks from the mountains through farms to the community with a distance of about 6 kilometers .
It has destroyed cocoa farms and food crops.
The landslide crashed a whole house which cannot be traced but fortunately the occupants of the building had left to church.
A family of four in one of the affected buildings were however rescued .
Fear has griped residents and farmers in the area.
The Assembly man for Aboabo Electoral area Hon. Samuel Tettey told Kasapa News, the incident occurred with earth tremor which shook the entire Community. He said residents are devastated and need government help to relocate .
The Eastern regional NADMO coordinator ,Ransford Owusu Boakye who led a team of NADMO officials to inspect the affected areas told Kasapa news the two landslides accompanying the floods in the regional capital is a call for safety measures.
He said the Eastern regional disaster management committee will meet again this week to consult the geological department for advise on those living on the slopes of mountains in the municipality .
Meanwhile many communities in the New Juaben Municipality including Nyamekrom, Asokore ,Abrewankwata, Zongo, Nsukawo ,Effiduase and two streams have been flooded after the downpour on Sunday.
Scores of residents have been affected especially at Nyamekrom where the Okomin river has overflown its banks.
A shell fuel Filling station at Abrewankwanta round-about was also flooded leading to leakage of fuel floating on the flood waters ,the filling station has been shut down while power supply to the area has been cut off to avoid fire outbreak.
The New Juaben Municipality has been hit severally with floods in the last few months which has claimed 2 lives.
Over 3,900 residents are were affected, according to Assessment By the National Disaster Management organization.
The Eastern regional Disaster Management committee led by Eastern regional Minister ,Mavis Ama Frimpong has stopped all projects on Wetlands and waterways whiles drains in the municipality are expected to be dredged as part of the short term measures whiles engineering redesigning of some parts of the municipality is being considered for the long term measure.
