A senior laboratory assistant at Abura Dunkwa District Hospital in the Central region has been arrested for allegedly trading blood for ritual purposes known in the local parlance as ‘sakawa’.
According to reports, the suspect, Stephen Enyan focus on pregnant women who visit the hospital for antenatal.
Adom News’ Kofi Adjei who followed the story reported that the young man draws more blood from the women and sell it off to the sakawa boys for their rituals at GHC 5,000 to 10,000 depending on the quantity.
Some of the residents who corroborated that story claimed, most of the women who visited the lab either die during childbirth or lose their babies because their blood was sold off to the ritualists.
They suspected the laboratory technician so one of them posed as a sakawa boy and went to him to buy blood.
The suspect, Stephen Enyan agreed to supply him the blood so they quickly informed the police and he was arrested.
Upon interrogation, he pleaded guilty to the offense and has been remanded at the Ankaful prisons pending police investigations.
