Former Black Stars trainer Kwesi Appiah is among the three coaches shortlisted for the vacant Black Stars coaching job, according to sources.
Appiah paid the ultimate price for the Black Stars poor showing against Uganda in an African Nations Cup qualifier in 2014 as the Ghana Football Association had previously strongly backed him to stay in the post after a disastrous outing at the 2014 World Cup.
The team’s poor showing in the match against the Cranes looked to have convinced the GFA that his stay was untenable and that a new coach was needed to move the Black Stars forward.
He was replaced by Avram Grant who resigned after failing to clinch Ghana’s fifth nation’s cup trophy in Gabon.
According to a close source within the Football Association, Kwesi Appiah has been shortlisted alongside current coach of French league 1 side Bordeaux and African cup winning Coach Hugo Broos, who won the competition with Cameroon.
The shortlisted coaches are expected to meet the Football Association on Friday March 31 and Monday April 3 at the GFA headquarters.
