Most Reverend Joseph Afrifah-Agyekum, the Catholic Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese, has urged presidential and parliamentary aspirants to be calm and reasonable ahead of the December 7 Elections.
He said, “politicians are campaigning intensively in the country and this has heightened the tension in the country, peace seems to be eluding us day after day and it is time for the people of God to rise up and pray to seek the face of God”.
He added that “political power must be translated and replaced so politicians should all try as much as possible to be calm and reasonable before, during and after the elections because we are all one in Christ, we should not give politics the chance to divide us.”
Most Rev. Joseph Afrifa-Agyekum made was speaking at the launch of the Koforidua Catholic Diocese silver jubilee anniversary at the Koforidua Jubilee Park.
The Bishop further stated that politicians should live their lives just like Christ and shy away from hate speeches adding that “all presidential and parliamentary candidates should go back to study the Bible and know how Jesus Christ lived his life, Christ always talked with care and a cool heart, so I want all politicians to use Christ as role model and retire from using hate speeches during your campaigns.”
The Bishop then pleaded with the congregation not to vote for any politician who is not willing and ready to serve, he said “just as Jesus Christ came to serve in Matthew 20:24-28,politicians should all be ready to serve. Do not vote for any politician who is not ready or willing to serve you but wants to be served,he or she is not the right person for Ghanaians.”
He added “Christ as a true leader came to lay his life down for us to receive salvation. He has shown us how to serve and all politicians must emulate him.”
He again advised the congregation to learn the spirit of forgiveness, he said “we seek forgiveness from God but yet we do not want to forgive those who have wronged us, have a forgiving heart and you will live long on earth.”
