Former Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Maxwell Kofi Jumah has said that chaos associated with the election of a KMA presiding member will never end until a new government comes to power.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosi Sen Tuesday following confusion between Assembly members in a bid to elect a presiding member for KMA, he said the election is politically motivated therefore it would be difficult for the assembly to get a presiding member until a new government with a vision comes to power.
“Myself I don’t understand the meaning of that chaos. Some personalities have overshadowed the assembly and it is now partisan politics and so I don’t expect them to resolve issues like this until new a government comes to power” he noted.
Another effort by the KMA to elect a presiding member Tuesday, September 27, 2016 has been fraught with chaos.
This was after some assembly members reportedly pounced on an NDC supporter Yakubu Tony Aidoo after he rained insults on them for deliberately dragging the election of a presiding member.
According to reports, the activities leading to the elections have been temporarily suspended as a result of the chaos.
The media were asked to leave the hall where preparations are ongoing for the planned elections.
Assembly members according to sources are raising doubts over the possibility that the elections would be held today.
But the former KMA boss believes the situation will be even worse if NDC retains power.
“Even if NDC retains power in December, it will still remain the same till their position is changed” he insisted.
This would be the fourth time the assembly would have failed in electing a presiding member. Previous elections resulted in near brawls between the assembly members.
