Former UN Secretary General and member of the MOBA 1957 Year Group, Kofi Atta Annan, will grace the 138th Mfantsipim National Fundraising Dinner Dance and Awards Night.
The event is slated for Friday, 22nd August, 2014 under the theme: “Let’s Begin To Dream Again For Mfantsipim And Ghana”.
The event scheduled to take place at the Main Foyer of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) and anchored by the MOBA 1984 Year Group is to raise funds for the School Infirmary Expansion Project aimed at increasing the bed-capacity of the Dispensary from 24 to 46 with an 8-bed isolation ward at a cost of GH¢517,000.00.
The night will also witness the conferment of an award for Exemplary Leadership, Dedication and Valour on Ebusuapanyin Dr. Francis Poku, who has been the President of the MOBA National Executives for the past 17 years.
Also the induction of ten Mfantsipim Brand Icons will be held.
They are Tsatsu Tsikata, Philip Addison, Frank Davies, Jnr., and Alex Quaynor for Law; Anis Haffar for Education; Kwasi Twum for Media; Reginald Laryea for Advertising, Marketing & Events Management; Moses Baiden, Jnr. for Business Development & Entrepreneurship; Kwabena Agyei Agyepong for Politics; and J. Kweku Bedu-Addo for Banking & Finance.
The Special Guest of Honour for the evening, Kofi Atta Annan, a diplomat was the first to emerge from the ranks of the United Nations (UN) staff to serve as the Secretary-General of the UN, serving as the 7th from 1997 to 2006.
The UN and Mr. Annan were jointly awarded the Noble Peace Prize 2001 “for their work for a better organized and peaceful world”. According to him, it was at Mfantsipim School that he learnt “that suffering anywhere concerns people everywhere.”
Nobel Peace Laureate, Kofi Atta Annan will attend the Awards Night with his wife, Nane Maria Annan.
The Guest Speaker for the evening is Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Omanhen of Essikado Traditional Area, British Sekondi and MOBA 1969; as well as the author of the celebrated book – “African Culture In Governance And Development: The Ghana Paradigm”.
