The Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea says the Mahama regime has recorded the worst weak performance in agriculture, arguing that the government’s bad policies has plagued the sector in recent times and hence must be voted out of power.
Agriculture is an important sector for sustaining growth and reducing poverty in developing countries.
In view of the fact that the food and agricultural sector dominates most African economies in terms of contribution to GDP, employment and incomes, its growth and development are essential for the overall process of socioeconomic development in the region.
But Nana Akomea bemoans the sector has seen much decline under the NDC government as Ghana experienced a negative development in agric, which is the backbone of the economy under the Mahama government.
“Before the NDC government came into power, food imports was in the region of GhS 600 million and now it has galloped to about GHS 2.1 billion. If you claim to be implementing all the best policies to shore up agric production then why aren’t we seeing the results? Nana Akomea queried in an interview with Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM Monday.
He continued:” So if you tell me you’ve brought out-board motors and all that what is the impact of those things you are claiming to have done. The cold store and the out-board motors should prove the results in the fishing sector. In 2014, we met 60% of the country’s fish demand and currently this has soared to a record low and we depend mostly on imported fish.
According to him, President Mahama has failed to fulfill all the promises that he made to Ghanaians and does not deserve a second-term in office.
