It was a sad day yesterday at Breman Jamra in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa (AOB) District of the Central Region when the Jamra Methodist Kindergarten (KG) School block collapsed, killing instantly four pupils.
The KG 2 pupils- aged between three to six years- were reportedly playing around when the building collapsed on them resulting in the death of the four.
Other pupils were reported to have sustained serious injuries when the incident happened, leaving three in very critical condition at the “Our Lady of Grace” Hospital at Breman Asikuma.
The deceased have since been taken to the morgue by the Asikuma police.
Speaking in an interview with Today shortly after the unfortunate incident, Assemblyman of the area, Mr. Kwesi Mbir, who witnessed the sad incident, said it occurred on Tuesday morning January 31, 2017 when the pupils were playing around the block.
According to him, the building was an old one built by the community for the school many years ago.
He disclosed that the building had structural defects which situation compelled the elders of the town to issue a warning to the school authorities not to use it.
Meanwhile some residents of the area have confirmed that several attempts made to get the building rehabilitated proved futile.
