Passengers on the 60-seater Neoplan Garu bound bus that was involved in accident on Friday dawn at Kawampe in the Kintampo North District of the Brong Ahafo allege that the driver of the vehicle was sleeping and that could have caused the accident.
According to some of the injured who spoke to mynewsgh.com at the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman where they are on admission, they realized they he was tired on reaching Kintampo and therefore advised him to rest before they continue.
He was impervious to their advice and on reaching a section of the road, he reportedly dozed off and moved into the lane of an oncoming vehicle and in the process of returning to his lane he failed brakes.
“Because the car was on top speed, it somersaulted, fell and trapped us inside. It was residents from the Kawampe community and other road users who came to rescue some of us. We were later rushed here”, a victim disclosed.
The Kintampo Divisional Police Commander Chief Superintendent Desmond Owusu Boampong revealed that the driver fled after the incident and his whereabouts currently unknown.
He disclosed that investigations have since commenced into the incident and promised efforts are underway to apprehend the runaway driver.
Bodies of the deceased persons have deposited at the Kintampo Government Hospital morgue for preservation awaiting the arrival of relations.
