The Kaneshie Area of the Church of Pentecost added a feather in the cap of the Church’s peace drive when it launched the Agent of Peace campaign, as Ghana goes to the polls in December.
The Area joins several other Areas of the Church who have embraced a nationwide crusade sensitizing the general public and members of the Church of Pentecost in particular to ensure peace before, during and after the December 7 elections.
The Church has therefore come out with leaflets and flyers in various Ghanaian languages to educate the public, especially the electorate, about the dos and don’ts of the elections.
In a speech to launch the Agent of Peace campaign, Friday November 4, 2016 at the Mandela Prayer Centre, the Kaneshie Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Emmanuel Achim Gyimah underscored that the Christian life and community is characterized by Seven (7) major cardinal principles.
These, he mentioned, as faith, love, obedience, righteousness, PEACE, humility, and unity in the Spirit of God.
“It is worth knowing that righteousness and peace which form the core lifestyle of the Kingdom of God (Rom. 14:17) according to Paul are also the core marks of the spirituality, holistic growth, prosperity and development of a Church and nation. Where righteousness and peace are missing marks, selfishness, greed, corruption, insecurity, strife, violence and warfare is the consequence,” he reminded the congregants.
Apostle Achim Gyimah pointed out that these cardinal principles have contributed largely in making Ghana an icon of peace in Africa and the world, attracting bilateral relationship with many countries on the political front as well as social and economy.
Stressing on these cardinal principles of Christianity, he said, these have also made Ghana stand out as the only country in the world where Christians and Muslims including people of other faith live in peace, unity, and tolerance.
“It is no wonder that the monster of terrorism and civil wars that is rife on our continent cannot penetrate nor be entertained in our dear country, because the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, is reigning in the majority of the 70% Christian population. God in the midst of Ghana serves as our foundation of peace and unity.”
Apostle Achim Gyimah further advised: “With the above foregoing precious principles and analysis that have sustained our peace, notwithstanding, Christians and the good people of Ghana must not be complacent and take our peace for granted, nor allow the aspirations of some few self-seeking politicians to take us ransom during this period of electioneering campaigns to drive us to exchange our peace for their selfish motives that can easily throw our dear country into chaos as it nearly happened in 2012 Elections.”
A member of the Church of Pentecost Executive Council, Apostle Joseph Assabil who represented the General Secretary of the Church, warned Christians against putting their trust in anyone or thing other than God.
Basing his sermon on 1 Samuel 7:9-14, he recounted how the Israelites went to war and lost on a number of cases because their hope was in the ark, which he christened a “lucky charm”.
“Anything that is used to replace God is deceptive,” he said, explaining that some people have entrusted their hope in man-made things like posters of men of God and religious-based inscriptions, thinking they can guarantee their protection in their journey on earth.
He therefore charged Christians to strife and experience God in their lives so that they will be able to worship him well.
Representatives of the New Patriotic Party and National Democratic who were at the launch pledged their commitment towards ensuring peaceful elections in December.
The launch was attended by Director of Children Ministry of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Fred Tiakor, Apostle Moses Ladejo (retd), Pastors in the Kaneshie Area and hundreds of church officers and members.
