Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has taken a swipe at General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia, for saying that the Mahama-led government will arrest and prosecute former Deputy Energy Minister K. T Hammond for his role in the sale of Ghana’s drill ship as soon as he loses his seat and its attendant immunity.
The NDC Chief Scribe has served notice that the Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Kobina Tahiru Hammond, will stand trial if he loses his seat in elections this year.
A government white paper on a report submitted by the judgment debt commission directed the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to demand Hon. Hammond to account for the difference of $900,000 which could not be traced following the sale of the drill ship for $24 million to defray a $19.5 million debt owed Societe General bank.
Mr Hammond subsequently sued government to prevent EOCO’s investigations.
However addressing NDC supporters at the launch of an outreach programme for Volta caucus nationwide at Fumso in the Ashanti Region which held in Mr Hammond’s Adansi Asokwa Constituency, Mr Asiedu Nketia indicated that the government is waiting for Mr Hammond to lose his seat, which is certain following which he’ll be dragged to the law courts soon after.
But commenting on the matter on Peace FM Wednesday, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako stated Asiedu Nketia at his propagandist best told an obvious lie saying as a former Legislator he should have known that serving MPs are not immune to prosecutions.
“Asiedu Nketia was a former Member of Parliament, he knows the law, even now as K.T Hammond is a Member of Parliament, the government wants to investigate him leading to a prosecution they can do that. You don’t lie…you just don’t go out there and put anything out. Was Kennedy Agyepong not a sitting MP, was Dan Abodakpi not a sitting MP when they were investigated and prosecuted? The truth is that you can write to the Speaker of Parliament requesting him to release a particular MP to you because you’re investigating a case he/she must assist you.
“I’ve all the letters between the then Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and Parliament in relation to the Abodakpi case in which he was prosecuted. I’m pushed to believe that the report of the Sole Commissioner on the Drill Ship matter, had something weird in there which looks like was crafted to provide armour for some propagandist to go out there to use either against Akufo Addo, Kufour administration and K.T Hammond, and this is becoming clear. That the General Secretary of the ruling party stands on campaign platform to say that K.T Hammond has some immunity against some misdeeds that were not established by the Sole Commissioner. It is highly irresponsible on a part of a government that it has evidence that an opposition MP has committed a crime, but will not touch him because he has some immunity…this is scandalous.”
