The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has condemned an attack on GhOne journalist Ridwan Karim Dini Osman in the discharge of his duties.
Mr Osman was assaulted while he covered a fire outbreak at Ashfoam in the North Industrial Area in Accra on Monday night. According to his narration, he was prevented from entering the building which had caught fire but forced his way in to cover the incident.
However, his assailant, after failing to get him out of the place, slapped him several times from behind in the view of onlookers. He was rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment.
GJA President Roland Affail Monney, who visited him in hospital, described the attack as “unwarranted and barbaric” and vowed to seek justice for the journalist.
“I visited our brother and colleague Ridwan Karim Dini Osman at the Police Hospital. He was assaulted yesterday in the line of duty. I’d like to state unequivocally that the GJA will not countenance any journalist being harassed or assaulted whilst performing his or her duties. We shall get to the bottom of this unwarranted and barbaric act and seek justice for Ridwan,” he stated in a Facebook post.
