Mother and mates of junior high school student of the Child of Hope Basic School in Tafo in the Eastern Region have expressed shock at the sudden death of Barbara Asante, who is alleged to have committed suicide Tuesday, March 7.
3news.com gathered the incident occurred at about 12pm.
A worried Mercy Asare, mother of the deceased, revealed she had prepared food for the deceased and her two siblings after which she went into the room to rest.
According to Madam Mercy, she woke up about 3:30pm same day and observed the absence of her daughter.
She immediately began to search around the house but was met with an awful site of her daughter’s dangling body tied around the kitchen ceiling fan with a red bag sling.
Her mother managed to cut the rope before calling in the police, who rushed the victim to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead ten minutes after arrival.
Surprisingly, her books, knife and school uniform were on the table, suggesting she was studying before the suicide.
Ironically, the deceased had spoken about death to her mother, who said she told her God had called her in one of her dreams.
School mates of the deceased were dumbfounded to hear about the news Wednesday morning, having gone on a break for the 60th independence anniversary parade.
They had fond memories account of the last time they met with the deceased.
The proprietress of the Child of Hope Basic School, Esther Obeng Mensah, who could not hold her tears, described Barbara Asante as a brilliant and disciplined pupil.
She has attributed the death of the deceased to her broken home situation.
She advised parents especially mothers to be close to their wards so that they confide in them.
3news.com gathered that the deceased used to stay with her father at Asiakwa before pushing to come stay with her mother at Tafo two months ago.
