Presidential Candidate for the People’s National Congress, Dr. Edward Mahama says the Electoral Commission (EC) has caused him a lot of grief after disqualifying him from contesting in the December polls.
He said the major plans they had as a party to campaign across the regions of the country were severely disrupted after EC disqualified them from the race.
“I made arrangements together with my running mate to look for funds to campaign for the presidency. All these plans were put on hold and cancelled when EC disqualified us for having two subscribers sign for us and another political party” he noted.
EC boss, Charlotte Osei disqualified PNC and 12 other political parties from the Presidential race due to anomalies that were identified on their nomination forms.
However, after several battles at the court between EC and some of the disqualified candidates, the Supreme Court Monday issued an order to the EC to extend the deadline for the nomination forms till close of day Tuesday, November 8, 2016.
Dr. Mahama, speaking on Adom FM’s Midday News, said his party has no mistakes to correct.
“We have no mistakes to correct. The EC does. Our subscribers were in court to swear affidavits. It was a judgmental mistake on part of the EC because in court the EC lawyer did not crosscheck my subscribers when they signed an affidavit that, they didn’t sign for anyone else.
“They really didn’t sign for anyone else” he indicated.
Dr Mahama has meanwhile welcomed the extension of the nomination deadline.
“I know our institutions are beginning to work. We all welcome Supreme Court’s judgment and will act accordingly.”
