Political analyst and lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, Jonathan Asante Okyere, says President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will find it difficult implementing the ban on the purchase of new vehicles by government officials.
President Akufo-Addo on Monday announced a ban on the purchase of vehicles his government considering that the country is in hard economic times for which reason his government has to adjust to the situation.
Commenting on the ban on 3FM Tuesday, however, Jonathan Asante Okyere said it will be difficult for the president to restrict his ministries from purchasing vehicles.
“If Ministry of Finance or that of Environment, Science and Technology and other ministries would want to procure new vehicles for their ministries, it will be difficult for the president to say that, well, we will not allow you.
“It will be very difficult because they will need these [vehicles] to ensure that they perform their functions and duties,” he said.
Mr. Asante Okyere said President Akufo-Addo’s decision would only work probably at the presidency.
“If it’s at the presidency that the president is thinking that the presidential vehicles or the vehicles at the pool of the presidency are concerned [and] that they are placing a ban on it, that one I think he can wholeheartedly do that either than that, it will be very difficult to implement this policy.”
