The manifesto promise by President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo led NPP administration to partner the private sector in ensuring the development of agriculture in the northern part of the country through the One Village One Dam Policy seems to be happening sooner than expected.
This follows the decision by a renowned Israeli Investment Group to partner government in the development of irrigation farming in the northern sector of the country.
The Commercial Project Management Africa and ME, an Israeli owned business has declared its intention to invest heavily in irrigation and technological projects aimed at developing Ghana’s agriculture sector, especially in the area of cultivation of food crops and construction of factories for agro-processing.
The firm has been operating in over 100 countries across the world with investments in several areas such as agriculture, mining, trading amongst others. It has been in existence for more than forty years.
A delegation led by its Leader, Mr. Danny Ariel, has held fruitful discussions with the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, to assess the possibility of commencing operations in the country.
The firm is expected to partner the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority(SADA) to ensure the smooth and efficient implementation of the programmes which is expected to commence in Kokobila in the Kumbungu District of the Northern Region.
At a meeting with the Minister in his office on Tuesday, Mr. Danny Ariel, said the firm would particularly support women groups who are into farming as a way to empower them.
He therefore expressed the hope that his outfit will be offered the needed assistance in terms of acquisition of land as well as reliable supply of power in order to enhance their activities.
On his part, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, described the project as a laudable one which will complement the efforts of government at reducing poverty and improving the lives of rural folks through agriculture.
He however requested that his ministry be furnished with the requisite models and details for scrutiny in order to make the necessary recommendations.
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto assured the investors once approved, the ministry will give them the necessary assistance to ensure the smooth implementation of their projects.
