About twenty heavily built men believed to be members of the dreadful vigilante group, ‘Invisible Forces’ have raided the Eastern Regional office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
The group associated with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) locked the regional Manager’s office after unleashing mayhem on its occupants. This comes after President Akufo-Addo pledged to clamp down on vigilantism, thus ensuring the rule of law reign supreme without fear or favour, regardless of party affiliations and ethnicity.
“…It will not be under my watch that people will take the law into their own hands, neither will it be under my watch that the laws of our land will not be enforced. That will never happen. The law will work without fear or favour,” he stated Saturday April 1, 2017, when he paid a courtesy call on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The President admitted that the matter of vigilantism is a “source of great worry” and that he was ready to stop it before it degenerates. But in a seeming defiance to the president’s warning, the Invisible Forces stormed the NHIA regional office in the Eastern region subjecting workers there to brutish treatment.
Their action brought to standstill activities at the NHIA as staff at the office took cover.
Work, however, resumed after the Police arrived at the scene to provide security.
Snippets of information picked up Starr News indicates that the group is against the appointment of a new regional Manager for the authority in the region.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service ,ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, told Starr News the Police swiftly dispatched a team to the scene after receiving information about the invasion of the office.
No arrests have yet been made.
