Investigate Police Officer’s Assault At Presidency

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak, has described the alleged manhandling of a security attaché at the Flagstaff House as a setback for Ghana’s democratic process.

Mr. Mubarak noted that last week, one ASP Nanka-Bruce, who served at the Flagstaff House under the past administration was “assaulted” by men believed to be members of the New Patriotic Party Security, the Invisible Forces.

CCTV footage of the incident subsequently went viral on social media.

Speaking to Citi News on these developments following President Akufo-Addo’s maiden State of the Nation Address before Parliament on Tuesday, the Kumbungu MP called for some answers from the Presidency.

“We bequeathed to him [President Akufo-Addo] a country that is democratic, that is stable and that is peaceful. But unfortunately, since his assumption of office, we have seen instances of a breakdown of security.”

“Nothing has been done. I filed an urgent question on the floor of Parliament which has been shot down by the Speaker and it is unfortunate that we have had a very exciting transition and yet we are seeing some of these things,” Mr. Mubarak bemoaned.

Following Nana Akufo-Addo’s victory in the country’s 2016 presidential elections, there have been other reports of violent clashes between supporters of his New Patriotic Party (NPP) and loyalists of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Most of these clashes resulted from attempts by the NPP supporters to forcibly take over jobs and government operations from supposed NDC supporters.

President Akufo-Addo, on his part, condemned the violent incidents that occurred during the transition period earlier in 2017, during his State of the Nation Address.

The President said such acts as undignified saying they must not be allowed to continue in the country.
