The deputy communications director of the New Patriotic Party Anthony Karbo has dismissed calls for the NPP to disclose details of the numerous promises being made by their flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to Karbo, the party will release details of its promises at the right time and won’t be pressured by anybody or institution to explain details of their promises.
Karbo’s comment comes after the NPP was indicted in a research by Policy Think Tank IMANI Africa that stated that out of the 29 promises made by the opposition party, only one is quantifiable.
The Think Tank also revealed on Thursday that most of the promises being made by other political parties ahead of the December elections are unrealistic.
But Karbo speaking to host of Morning Starr Nii Arday Clegg on Friday said IMANI should have waited for NPP’s manifesto before going ahead with their analysis.
According to him, they disagree and reject the research put out by IMANI.
“A manifesto will come out…we have a calendar, we will communicate with the media and tell you when and where…it doesn’t mean that we are running away from your questions.
“IMANI has put out something but we question and disagree with the method with which they have put out this. This same institution came out and said one of our biggest policies we put before the country was untenable and they quantified and argued that it had failed in South Africa and Kenya and so no political party should dare and go there.”
But IMANI President Franklin Cudjoe has slammed critics of its findings on the campaign promises of political parties.
According to him, the reactions that have greeted their work, especially from NPP followers are ridiculous.
“I have said that sympathisers of the NPP are more arrogant than the NPP,” Mr. Cudjoe told Morning Starr host Nii Arday Clegg.
He added that electorate deserve better from political parties when it comes to being accountable for the promises they make.
