QUEEN mother of Kwabenya, Naa Korkoi Dugbatey II, a descendant of Onomroko-Korle We of the Gbese Stool has debunked claims by some persons that she is not the legitimate Queen-mother.
The queen mother who did not mince words vowed to use her position to flush all land guards as well as persons holding themselves as chiefs in the area.
“I will like to call on the general public, Institutions and all governmental agencies not to do business with any of these land guards on any issue related to lands or properties in Kwabenya, or else have themselves to blame,” she warned.
It would be recalled that, some group of people including Tettey Obuama a.k.a Okoe Gbese, Doku Mallam a native of Ningo, and the destooled Wulomei of Korle We and Kweikuma Tsoshishie of Ga mashie recently held a press conference and challenged the legitimacy of Naa Korkoi Dugbatey II.
However, in a swift rebuttal, the queen mother at a press conference held at the Kwabenya Chief’s Palace yesterday amidst chanting of war songs and beating of war drums, indicated that her position as the queen mother of the area remains unopposed.
According to her, claims by her detractors were nothing but mere propaganda to tarnish her image and reputation following a landmark court case that went against the group.
In a statement read on her behalf by her Spokesperson, Henry Nii Ayi-Addo, the queen mother emphasised that she was installed as the queen mother of Kwabenya in September 21 1992 by a Principal Elder of Gbese, Gbese Akuashongtse, Nii Ayi Kukrudu II, his elders Nii Ayitey Olemla and Nii Okai Kasablofo II alias Apeh, all of Gbese.
Naa explained that she has served the area and “will continue to serve in that capacity for the past 24 years until a recent Court judgment which went in her favour over the Kwabenya lands.
According to her, the smear campaign launched by the said group of people stemmed from the bitterness Nii Ngleshie Addy Family haboured after a High Court Judge, Justice Ofori Arthur ruled against them in a consolidated land case that lasted for 19 years.
The court in that ruling mandated the Lands Commission to cancel all documents and registrations falsified by some agents claiming ownership in the name of Nii Ngleshie Addy on the Odai Ntow lands.
“It is this latest judgment by Justice Ofori Arthur that went against all these land guards who have personally benefited from the indiscriminate sales and realizing their challenges to refund all monies paid to them on the position as Nii Ngleshie Addy family that has given them headaches to organise that Press conference by the land guards,” she stated.
Naa Korkoi Dugbatey II in setting the records straight pointed out that, the individuals “who have risen against her have no locus but are hungry land guards who are stealing the Kwabenya lands”.
She averred that Bernard Nyarko was a standard six school drop-out of the Kwabenya-Atomic Primary school whilst Tettey Obuama who is also not a native of Kwabenya has been engaged in the indiscriminate sale of lands in the area.
The queen mother also indicated that Doku Mallam who is also a native of Ningo currently has lost his credibility as a result of indiscriminate sale of lands at Glefe and his alleged involvement of hoarding of fishing equipment offered by government for distribution to fishermen.
