Independent candidate, Kofi Akpaloo says he is ready to pay one million dollars [$1m] as the filing fee to contest the December 7 general elections.
According to the founder and leader of the Independent Peoples Party (IPP), he is prepared to pay anything just to liberate Ghanaians from abject poverty.
Mr. Akpaloo’s comments come after some opposition political parties like the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and Peoples National Convention (PNC) expressed concern about the astronomical increase in filing fees to over 1,000 percent.
They argued that the move by the election body is an attempt to exclude them from contesting the December 7 general elections.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Friday, Kofi Akpaloo said though he can afford it, the amount is on the high side.
He indicated that plans to field 100 parliamentary candidates for the IPP have been affected due to the increase of the filing fee to GHc10,000.
This notwithstanding the businessman said he is working assiduously to make an impact in the December polls.
Mr. Akpaloo says his worse performance in the election will be third but is optimistic of a landslide victory.
