The Member of Parliament for Bekwai Joe Osei Wusu has confirmed he has been nominated as the First Deputy Speaker for the Seventh Parliament.
Mr. Osei Wusu said he is “capable” to fit into his elevated position as the next parliament comes to being January 7, 2017.
However, he admitted in an interview with Accra-based Joy FM that “I have not psyched myself up to it.”
Meanwhile, the National Council of the incoming New Patriotic Party administration has accepted the nomination of current Minority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu to become the Majority Leader and will be assisted by Adwoa Sarfo Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya.
Adwoa Sarfo said on the same network that she feels “humbled” as the first woman to occupy that position.
“I am very humbled. To God be the glory. I feel it is very humbling and this is a party that rewards hard work. For a woman to take such position for the first time it’s humbling,” she noted.
“It’s going to be a large majority on our part… I’m conversant with the rules of the House. I believe that as a young woman for starters … my team is going to be very supportive and there will be a lot of team playing, humility and honesty. I will make sure government business is done so effectively. I will be approachable and be able to lobby on the other side to get a consensus when need be,” the Dome legislator remarked.
On the minority side, the Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has been named as their leader.
