Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has said he has confidence in the team assembled by President Nana Akufo-Addo to govern the country for the next four years.
Parrying criticisms that Mr Akufo-Addo will end up with a bloated government after nominating 36 ministerial appointees for vetting and approval by parliament, Mr Kufuor told journalists that: “I am very confident in his team.”
According to him, Ghanaians must allow Mr Akufo-Addo a free hand to operate.
“Look, the country has assigned him a job, we should give him the free hand to do the job for us. We didn’t vote for nothing. We voted because we expect him to give solutions to us. And he says this is the way I can do the work and you sit on the sidelines and say: ‘I won’t allow you to use the method you can use to give us the solutions.’ Is that what we want?
“…Let’s measure him by the way he works,” Mr Kufuor added.
Mr Akufo-Addo is yet to name deputy and regional ministers. This has given critics a cause to raise alarm about how big his government could get and the drain it is likely to have on the coffers of the state.
