Veteran journalist, Alhaji Abdul Rahman Haruna Atta has endorsed the candidacy of the presidential candidate of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), President John Mahama stating that he will vote for him in the forthcoming presidential race.
According to him, he believed President Mahama is the right man for the Flagstaff House job thus his preference of him over the presidential nominees of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), the Convention People’s Party (CPP), the People’s National Convention and others.
“Being honest about my preference do not make me wicked, rude or insulting. I respect everybody,” said the former Managing Editor of the Accra Mail Newspaper on Morning Starr Monday.
He continued “Last election [2012], I voted for president [John] Mahama and I will vote for [him] again this year.”
Haruna Atta who was appointed Ghana’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Namibia and Bostwana by president Mahama decried the negative consequences of what he labeled as “Commitment politics.”
“…It’ll not help us as a nation,” he warned. “It is such that it brings clashes and more.”
Extreme partisanship, he said negatively affects development. He stated that he has had meetings with politicians and from “chats with them, there seem to be some mistrust between them.”
That, also goes for the media, he added. He thus called for “certain ethics and guidelines for journalists” to guide them in their works.
He urged journalists to always be positive and criticize to help in the country’s development.
