One of the candidates vying for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Kpone Katamanso Assembly (KKA), Mr. Josiah William Nuertey, has hinted of his resolve to turn the fortunes of the constituency around if appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to him, the area has not seen any development despite the fact that most of the industries in Tema are located in the area.
Speaking to Today in an exclusive interview, Mr. Nuertey said KKA is one of the very deprived in terms of social amenities such as a modern hospital, secondary schools and even quality road networks.
Mentioning some of the initiatives he will undertake when appointed, he said the district has a huge potential for revenue generation.
Thus there will be the need to put in place programmes that will lead to the collection of revenue for development purposes, he added.
He also noted of his plans to make education a priority of the people because even though they are mostly farmers and fishermen, industrialisation has taken over their lands, and so through education, they can be gainfully employed in those industries.
“The assembly needs to collaborate with stakeholders, civil society organisations and industries around and this would help the assembly identify the role the state actors would have to play in the development of the district,” he noted.
Mr. Nuertey said the focus of the assembly would be in all facets of human resources in the district, thus, women, children and the physically challenged, will be catered for in line with the constitution.
He also said his desire to offer himself to serve his people was as a result of his rich experience in the district assembly system and education which he hopes would tie the president’s vision to ensure socio-economic transformation of the country.
“Kpone people should expect a massive transformation of the district because I intend to operate an open-door administration,” he stressed.
Mr. Nuertey has been a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) since 1992, serving as the Kpone Katamanso Constituency Campaign Manager in both the 1992 and 1996 general elections.
In the 2012 and 2016 general elections, he served as the party’s representative at the collation centre and is currently the constituency disciplinary committee chairman.
Mr. Josiah William Nuertey is a 53-year-old teacher and Head of Languages at the Nungua Secondary School.
He also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and English from KNUST and currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Local Government Studies at the Institute of Local Government.
He is married with three children and also a co-opted member of the Kpone Traditional Council.
