Newly elected Mayor of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Osei Asibey Antwi has promised to resuscitate businesses in Kumasi.
Speaking to the media on Friday, March 17, 2017 at the True Vine hotel in Kumasi, Mr. Osei Asibey Antwi regretted that the economic vibrancy which the Kumasi Metropolis used to enjoy was no more.
Apart from Kumasi being the ‘Garden City’ of West Africa he noted, its economic viability was next only to Lagos because of several factors which no longer exist.
“In those days, the lay-out of Kumasi was perfect, there were correct water ways, there were no filth in the city and people could move around peacefully without any hindrances but that is not the story now, we shall work tirelessly to undo all the damages caused to the Kumasi city”. Mr. Osei Asibey assured.
He said, “it is very sad to see our women these days doing business on the shoulders of the roads only just to make ends meet”.
To this end, he called on the Assembly to work together in assisting the regional minister to ‘grab’ whatever is due to region especially, Kumasi.
Mr. Osei Asibey Antwi who holds an MBA in Marketing polled 132 out of 133 votes from the assembly members representing 99.2 percent of total votes cast.
One of the votes was rejected.
Many important dignitaries including Asantehene’s representative , Members of Parliament (MPs) were all there to support the president’s appointee.
The Ashanti regional minister Simon Osei Mensah who could not control his joy spent some minutes praising God for the election of Mr. Osei Asibey Antwi.
Hon. Simon Osei Mensah expressed confidence in the ability of the new mayor adding, ‘this complete team will work beyond expectation. We are coming to work for the people of Ashanti”.
The new KMA boss together with the regional minister showed appreciation to the President, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Kumasi Traditional Council and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Benard Antwi Boasiako.
