President John Dramani Mahama has announced his decision to respect the outcome of the elections whether the final results go his way or not.
Addressing some charged supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress in his residence in Accra, two days after the crucial general elections, he appealed to his supporters to “respect the constitution” and “remain calm”.
“We are a party that respects the rule of law,’ President Mahama reminded his followers.
“We should remember that we are the party in government, we have more to lose when there is instability in the country,” he stressed.
President Mahama who is currently trailing the opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo in the certified results so far, reiterated his confidence in the Electoral Commission.
“I want to assure the nation we will respect the outcome of the elections, positive or negative,” President Mahama promised Ghanaians.
He however noted that the party is also collating its own results vis-à-vis what is being collated by the EC.
But for now, he asked, “let’s respect the figures and be law abiding”.
“Don’t let your spirit be down at all,” he said “we are a great party and let’s wait for the EC”.
