Sport Minister, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye says he will never apologize for saying the presidency is not for short people.
He maintained that, his comment at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign launch in Cape Coast, Sunday has been taken out of context.
The Sports Minister has been criticized for his gaffe which many believe was directed at the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo and called on him to apologize.
But the campaign spokesperson for the governing NDC, Joyce Bawah Mogtari said the Sports Minister comment was a figure of speech.
Defending himself on Adom TV’s morning show, Bedwam Tuesday, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye said he owes no one an apology.
Rather, he said the NPP must apologize to him for “misquoting and misrepresenting” what he said for cheap political points.
“I never said the presidency is not for short people’ what I meant in Ga was that, the presidency is not about how short, tall or how good you look in spectacles but the NPP has misquoted me” he bemoaned.
However, Mr. Vanderpuye who is also the Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo said it the NPP thinks the comment was mocking the height of Nana Akufo-Addo, then “who the cap fit, let him wear it”.
