Minister designate for foreign affairs, Shirley Ayokor Botchwey has disclosed that her key interest will be about fostering economic diplomacy for the republic when she is given the nod by parliament.
She told Otec fm’s Nyansapo that every foreign affairs ministry focuses on political diplomacy but she will make economic diplomacy her main focus since it will help Attract foreign direct investment into the country.
According to her, All Ghana missions abroad Will be trained to position themselves to attract foreign investments which would be useful in carrying out President Akufo-Addo’s promise of one district one factory.
As part of our foreign policies, we will be friendly to all countries around us and foster relations that will centre on the supreme interest of Ghanaians, she said.
She noted that, Ghana during former president Kufour’s regime played a lead role in the affairs of west Africa And Africa as a whole, a feat she would want to bring back when given the nod.
She stated that, political diplomacy seems to be the main focus of most foreign affairs ministries but she would make sure we put our best foot forward to attract foreign investments.
She expressed gratitude to President Akufo-Addo for his Faith in her, though he had a lot of options to choose from and promised to work hard to support his vision of creating an environment of peace and trade cooperation between Ghana and other countries.
she promised to bring to bear the experience she gained from working under President Akufo-Addo as deputy foreign affairs Minister during the Kufuor regime.
