Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has warned he will deal ruthlessly with staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) “if they do not stop sabotaging the government.”
According to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the current frequent power outages in the Region is a deliberate attempt by some loyalists of the opposition National Democratic Congress working with the power company to sabotage the Akufo-Addo government.
Chairman Wontumi claimed intelligence he has gathered from reliable sources within the ECG points to the fact that some ECG staff are determined to frustrate the energy sector of the economy “with the aim of courting disaffection for President Akufo-Addo.”
The NPP Regional Chairman was speaking in an interview with host of Abusua Nkommo, Kwame Adinkra in response to widespread reports of harsh power outages in the Ashanti Region.
He said, “Kwame, I will not tolerate the ongoing power outages by the electricity people…it is deliberate to sabotage government.”
“I am the regional chairman, I delivered political power to the NPP and it’s my responsibility to protect the power I delivered in the last elections by all means possible,” he added.
“Any public official or institution that thinks can work against us should rethink…I will crash them and their plans even before they strike. I have intentionally gone quite since Nana Addo was sworn in and I am picking pieces of information from the ground and I will not hesitate crash anyone I find to be misbehaving,” he warned.
“Kwame, since we won power, we have not changed anyone at zoomlion, but you take a walk around the city and see how dirty they have left the environment to be, all because they want to sabotage us,” he alleged.
Antwi Boasiako adds, “even in the police service, we have some officers there who are still misbehaving and I will deal with them.”
“I am told the police in Kumasi have intensified their extortion activities and other unprofessional conducts. I will soon strike on them. Kwame, the issue is, I will not tolerate any unprofessional acts,” he said.
“So on the issue of the ECG, if they don’t want my troubles, they should solve the energy situation with immediate effect before I strike on them,” he stressed.
