The Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has replied to the comments by Sports Minister, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye that the Presidency is not for short people.
Nii Lante Vanderpuye told crowds at the campaign launch of the NDC in the Central Region over the weekend that “the presidency is not for short people.”
His comments have been swiftly condemned by a section of the public. Some supporters of the NPP have asked that he retracts the statement and apologises to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The Sports Minister’s comments departed markedly from admonition by President John Mahama to supporters of the NDC and other parties to wage a campaign devoid of insults and violence.
Sammy Awuku reacting to this on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Tuesday said, the comments were unfortunate and could only be made by members of a government who are seeing opposition staring it in the face.
According to him, he would rather prefer to have a President who would perform and move Ghana forward despite being short than have a President who is big in size as a giant but still deliver little.
“I will prefer a hunchback who can move Ghana from nonentity to entity than have someone with the height of Michael Jordan and still draw the nation backwards and that is what Nii Lante must know,” he said.
The NPP Youth Organiser added that, it would be best for the NDC to call the Odododiodio Member of Parliament to order if indeed they seek to have a clean campaign as admonished by the President.
Such reckless comments, Sammy Awuku said has the potential of affecting the country’s democratic credentials.
