The Volta Regional Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is praying the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) wins at least a seat in their ‘world bank’.
According to Simon Amegashi Viglo, the NDC out of sympathy can cede Nkwanta North parliamentary seat to the opposition party if only they work hard in the December 7 general elections.
“We are ready to cede at least a seat for them if they work hard but if they don’t work hard, the little they have will be taken away from them” he scoffed.
The NPP is targeting three parliamentary seats and 30 percent of the total votes cast in the region in the December 7 general elections.
The Agenda 3-30 according to the NPP’s Regional Secretary, Joseph Homenya is targeted at winning three seats and 30 per cent of the valid votes to be cast in the election.
He said the move will cause a major upset in the ruling party’s stronghold as the youth in the region had bought into the NPP’s message of hope.
But Simon Amegashi Viglo on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday said, the NPP is just building castles in the air.
He wondered how a party which he claims is divided even in its stronghold will win 30 percent votes in the stronghold of its main opponent.
“They don’t have a chairman, they don’t have a General Secretary, the party is not holding even in the stronghold and you think you can get more votes in a place where you don’t have any sympathies?”.
The NDC Volta Regional scribe said the incessant campaign by the NPP will not change the voting pattern of the people in the region.
He indicated that, the exceptional reception accorded their flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo by the chiefs and people during his tour of the region shows the beauty of democracy but will not translate into votes.
“We are not worried but rather happy the NPP has come to win the minds of our people; it amounts to conceding Voltarians are not Togolese”.
“Our prayer is for them to do better and get one seat” he added.
Mr. Viglo is convinced that the many projects carried out by the NDC in the region and the leadership skills exhibited by President John Dramani Mahama would be among the several issues voters would consider in determining who deserves their thumb print.
