Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the EIB Network, Nathan Kwabena Anokye-Adisi, also known as Bola Ray, has thrown light on the circumstances leading to the resignation of Nii Arday Clegg from Starr FM.
Clegg, a lawyer, who took over from Kafui Dey in September 2015 as host of Starr 103.5FM’s morning show, Morning Starr, resigned suddenly on Monday, February 13, 2017, without any plausible explanation.
The episode led to speculation that he had been pushed out of the network.
Some media reports said Clegg had been forced to resign over a decision by Bola Ray to appoint someone less experienced than him (Clegg) as his boss.
But speaking to Kwame Sefa Kayi on Starr Chat, Bola Ray denied forcing Clegg out.
He said Clegg wrote to him that he was quitting the job in a month’s time and that he (Bola Ray) merely responded by directing him to resign within 24 hours.
“Nii Arday wrote to inform me of his intention to leave in a month’s time but I asked him to resign within the next 24 hours because I thought he showed bad faith by not telling me beforehand so I had to take a tough decision”, he said.
He said the two remained friends despite what happened, adding: “…he even called me this morning to wish me a happy birthday”.
Bola Ray said he believed Nii Arday left largely because he wanted to move on to concentrate on his law profession.
“Nii Arday is a great lawyer and he moved on because he wanted to continue with his law firm”, he said.
