Omanhene of the Offinso Traditional Area, Nana Wiafe Akenten III has hailed President Mahama for the socio- economic development he has provided his area stating, ”I’ll never forget what Mahama has done for me’’.
Nana Akenten explains, the fact that he has applauded President Mahama for transforming his area with countless developmental projects does not guarantee the NDC leader his vote in the December 7 general elections.
He refuted claims he has pledged to vote for John Dramani Mahama in this year’s Presidential election.
”I have never advised or encouraged anybody to vote for Mahama, I’m only a chief with one vote and when the time comes, I will go to the polling centre to cast my one vote and that is what people need to understand”.
Recent media reports suggest Nana Wiafe Akenten gave out his ceremonial stool representing a symbol of authority to President Mahama to sit on, an act that has since sparked public discussion.
There were also widespread media reports the Paramount chief leader after declaring his support for Presidential candidate of the ruling National Democratic Congress has also declared support for Nana Akufo Addo following Samira Bawumia, wife of the NPP’s running mate visit to his palace.
But speaking in an exclusive interview on Abusua Nkomo hosted by Kwame Adinkra Tuesday morning, Wiafe Akenten said’’ I’m surprise people are making comments that I offered President Mahama a ceremonial stool to sit when he paid a courtesy call on me. The truth is when the President came to my palace he wanted to sit on a different chair until I personally asked him to sit on the one I gave out to him’’.
He added ’’This place former President John Agyekum Kuffour, John Evans Atta Mills all sat during their tenure of office upon visiting me so what is wrong with me doing same to President Mahama’’ he asked.
