Embattled Presidential Candidate of the United Progressive Party(UPP), Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike, has described the Mahama administration as a failure and hence does not deserve a second term in office.
He said although he endorsed the current government in the 2012 elections, he’s taken a u-turn to support the Flagbearer of the major opposition party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, because “Mr. Mahama has proven that he can’t deliver even if he’s given 100 years.”
Mr. Odike has thrown his weight behind the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo after he[Odike] announced his exit from the Presidential contest Wednesday.
The politician cum businessman through his lawyers notified the Electoral Commission (EC) of his decision citing personal reasons for his action. He had earlier filed his nomination on the 29th October.
Interacting with host Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM Thursday, Mr. Odike said the chairperson of the commission, Charlotte Osei is sadly fighting against multi-party democracy and destroying the young parties within the system.
“She wants to create a two party state and it is regrettable. I have lost confidence in her as a Presidential aspirant because I’ve seen she wants to rig elections for one particular party. John Mahama’s administration has disappointed and failed Ghanaians, but Charlotte Osei is trying to scheme to help retain Mahama’s government for a second-term.
Notwithstanding this, he indicated that Ghana must also replicate the change blowing across globally by voting out the incumbent government and rather give the opposition party a chance in the upcoming polls.
“We are throwing our support for the candidate of the NPP simply because his vision and our vision is almost the same. We believe in industrialization; we think that industries is the best way to change the fortunes of this country for better. Secondly, Nana Addo is a very humble person, affable and a man of hyper-intelligence.
So we believe that if this man is in the helms of affairs this nation and if he’s also a listener we can advise him on so many issues that will change the fortunes of this nation. Nana Addo is a man of action and Ghanaians are craving for change and we see the change coming. America has changed and all the other countries are changing the voting pattern to bring the leading opposition parties into power. So we’re joining the winning team to ensure that Ghanaians get the change they’re yearning for,” Odike said.
