The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye, has stated emphatically that his no-nonsense approach to duty is the very reason why some people want him transferred from the Ashanti Region.
The regional police capo says his intolerance to favouritism and resolves to carry out his duty without fear or favour is the reason some people are calling for his removal.
There had been several agitations from individuals and groups loyal to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the region for the transfer of DCOP Kofi Boakye, whom they accused of working in collaboration with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to thwart the NDC’s efforts at achieving the one million votes target.
But the Regional Police Commander in an interview with HELLO FM in Kumasi recently reiterated his commitment towards upholding professionalism in the service, stressing that he is not deterred by the machinations of his saboteurs who want him transferred.
According to him, because these few individuals would not be allowed to have their way, they have resorted to levelling all forms of unfounded allegations against him.
The actions of such people, according to him, will not sway him from his core duty, adding “I will continue to do what is right and appropriate for the security of the region.
“The public must know that the police exist to ensure peace and security in the society; when one commits an offence, we must allow the law to take its due cause and ensure that justice prevails,” he explained.
The Police Commander pointed out that his main duty as head of the command is to preserve peace and ensure law and order in the region so that residents can go about their normal duties without feeling insecure.
DCOP Kofi Boakye also defended the recent decision by his outfit to arrest and detain the regional chairman of the NPP, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, after he was alleged to have slapped the Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Hon. Collins Owusu Amankwaah.
According to him, the law is no respecter of person, stressing that once someone commits an offence, he or she must be made to face the full rigorous of the law, irrespective of his or her status in the society.
Speaking on wide range of security issues in the region, the affable DCOP Kofi Boakye, who has come under pressure in recent times following strings of incidents of armed robbery, said he and his men were very much concerned about the developments but insisted that the picture was not that scary as being portrayed.
According to him, the region has chalked numerous successes as far as the battle against crime activities were concerned in the region but pointed out however that the unpredictable nature of criminal elements in the society required that the police also adopted proactive measures to contain them.
He said it was for this reason that the police continue to advocate for the support of the public in terms of information sharing since it is the only way activities of criminals can be nipped in the bud.
DCOP Kofi Boakye also emphasized the need for individuals to observe personal safety regulations that will help prevent them from falling prey to the nefarious activities of these criminals.
