The Chair of the Electoral Commission of Ghana has told a Presidential aspirant that, she is not accountable to him.
Mrs Charlotte Osei is said to have given this response when she was confronted with the issue of her signature inconsistencies.
The flag bearer of the Independent People’s Party (IPP), Mr Kofi Akpaloo alleged that, the EC Boss has three different signatures.
Mr Akpaloo, who is one of 13 presidential aspirants disqualified from the 2016 polls over errors on their nomination forms, told Chief Jerry Forson, host of Accra 100.5FM’s morning show, Ghana Yensom, on Tuesday that, the EC Boss herself is not infallible and, therefore, wondered why she disqualified him over signature inconsistencies on his nomination forms.
“I pointed it out to her that madam, look at your own signature; check it. She said she is not accountable to me,” Mr Akpaloo said, adding that: “The woman doesn’t understand her job, she can’t do the job.”
Mr Akpaloo’s IPP and other disqualified parties have up to 5pm on Tuesday to make all the necessary corrections on their nomination forms following a ruling by a Supreme Court directing the EC to extend the nomination period to accord the nominees the opportunity to make amends.
Meanwhile, the EC said it has detected more errors on the forms of the affected parties. For example, 105 new errors have been detected by the election management body on the forms of the Progressive People’s Party’s flag bearer, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom.
