The parliamentary debate organised by the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) at Assin Bereku in the Central region ended abruptly after the husband of one of the contestant allegedly assaulted a female journalist at the venue.
According to reports, the husband of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Assin North, Mrs. Abena Durowaa Mensah lost his cool when a journalist from Assin Fosu-based Nkwa FM asked a question he deemed insulting.
Splash FM’s Alfred Amoh who visited the scene reported that, there was pandemonium at the venue when the man gave the journalist, Akua Serwaa some dirty slaps.
The livid husband of the NPP woman claimed, the journalist had connived with the NDC to ask his wife a difficult question just to embarrass her.
But the journalist who said she was innocent of the claims, Alfred said, also gave the man whose name is still unknown some slaps which brought the debate to an end.
The police was quickly called to the scene and the husband of the NPP candidate was whisk away. The journalist sustained some bruises on her face and was given a medical form to seek medical attention.
Meanwhile, the man is currently in custody at the Assin Praso police station assisting in investigations.
