Africans particularly Ghanaians continue to abuse ‘stardom’ when they hit the
limelight either by coincidence or through their personal efforts. Shatta Wale is one
artiste in Ghana who took the showbiz industry by surprise through ridiculous means.
Simply, he passed through the back door through disturbances and by so doing, caught
the attention of Ghanaians. This happened in the year 2013 VGMA when Shatta Wale took
Charter House and dancehall diva, Kaakie to the gutters through insults because the
former felt to have been swap off a deserving award. I don’t blame him that much,
because Ghana as a country always give recognition to no-serious stuffs.
Fast forward, Shatta Wale capitalised on the recognition or attention given to
release countless number of tracks including diss songs and became more popular.
Undoubtedly, the reggae/dancehall genre is believed to be more gangster oriented as
it basically represent the behaviour of the people living in the streets and ghetto.
This helped Shatta Wale to get huge followers to rally behind his ‘madness’!
After trying hard to make the Shatta Movement brand sticked on the lips of many,
entertainment pundits and music lovers in the country thought Shatta Wale will
pick-up a reserved kind of lifestyle. However, our expectations were never met as
I’m speaking! The question is, for how long can Shatta Wale stand in the music
industry as he continually pick-up an unresolved rift or disagreement against Charter
House? How can he get the international niche like Sarkodie without being recognized
in his own motherland. Truly, Shatta Wale’s inability to get nomination at Black
Entertainment Television (BET) Awards is as a result of the rude and negative
character and behavior of him.
Let’s not pretend, if the negative behavior of Shatta Wale continues, he’ll
surely live to regret someday or better still, he’ll continue to be the
‘Village Champion’! For all you know, Sarkodie keeps winning as a result of the
good reputation he had built for himself and the number of enviable awards he has
badged one the years from 2009 – till date. It’s high time Shatta Wale must relax
and resolve all the tension between him and Charter House, because he needs them more
than they need him as a musician. More importantly, no musician can underrate the
positive impact winning awards especially Ghana Music Awards brings to them.
