The NDC Member of Parliament for Banda in the Brong Ahafo Region, Ahmed Ibrahim has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the area of being behind the intended Zenophobic attack on innocent residents.
According to him, the NPP which is not happy with Ahenkro being made the District Capital has repeatedly said they’ll have the capital changed when it assumes power hence, deliberately creating a state of insecurity in the area, to warrant a change of the capital.
Government workers in Banda Ahenkro in the Banda District of the Brong Ahafo Region have deserted post over a threat of xenophobic attack by a group calling itself concern members of Banda Ahenkro. This comes after a notice making rounds in the Banda Ahenkro town warning of attack on people the group considered as ‘strangers’ who have taken over all works in town.
According to Head teacher of Roman Catholic Junior High School in Banda Ahenkro Jones Agyemang in an interview said they have decided to vacate post for fear of being killed. He said upon receiving the threatening note, he informed his staff and they also reported to the GES Director and subsequently to the Banda Divisional command based on whose advise they ‘strangers’ are leaving the town to ensure their safety. Other government workers out of fear have reportedly left the area.
But speaking to Kasapa News, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim stated that the NPP must be held solely responsible for the unfortunate and shameful development in Banda Ahenkro.
“This happening is no suprise to me, the NPP has by its actions in the past shown that they are behind this issue. They were clamouring for a change of the district capital, Banda, (my hometown) before the elections and now that they have power they are bent on carrying out their plan. We can’t be changing the capital of a district based on which political party is in power at a particular time. I’ve given the information I have to the Police Command and they are doing their own investigation to establish those behind the intended zenophobic attack.”
According to him, he’s also sighted a message on an NPP whatsapp platform calling for a massive demonstration on Monday March 20, against the taking over of jobs in Banda by foreigners.
However, the NPP Constituency Chairman, Nicholas Bawuah in response dismissed the claims by the MP, saying the NPP has absolutely no hand in the development.
