The destooled chief says he has been wrongly victimized but will accept his destoolment wholeheartedly for the respect of tradition
A sub-chief (Ankobeahene) of Essienimpong near Ejisu in the Ashanti region, Nana Ekon Ansah Boafo; has been destooled for engaging in partisan politics. He is said to have acted as a polling agent for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the just concluded 2016 elections.
The kingmakers say he discounted his traditional functions and rather chose to act politically, which violates the traditions of the town. According to reports, Essienimpong chiefs and elders would properly perform traditional rites to destool the chief after the burial of Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.

With regards to his dethronement, Nana Boafo is not to be seen performing any official traditional duty near or at the palace nor in the name of the palace.
Nana Ekon Ansa Boafo is said to be an ardent supporter of the NDC, who had publicly made his strong love and affection for the party known to the residents of the area and the nearby towns over the years.
Furthermore, the Ankobeahene himself as a matter of fact, has responded to news of his destoolment. Speaking to the media, Nana Boafo confirmed that indeed he had been destooled by the chiefs and elders at Essienimpong, because of his affection for the NDC. He however, did not hesitate to add that he had been wrongly victimized.
The destooled chief explained he is a member of the NDC and has been a polling agent for the party since 1992, when he was not yet a chief. He explained that his involvement at the polls in just concluded elections, was due to the fact that the party did not get anyone to represent it at a particular polling station.
Nana Boafo however said he will accept his destoolment wholeheartedly for the respect of tradition.
