Joe Mettle’s record-making win at the 2017 Ghana Music Awards has been received with mostly scorn by people who believe he doesn’t deserve the ‘Artiste of the Year‘ award.
Event Statisticians KPMG have released the voting pattern to assure everyone that the decision was a fair one. The ultimate award is based on 40% public votes, 30% from the Academy and the VGMA board also contributing 30%.
Mettle got 51.22% of the votes compared to his closest challenger, Sarkodie, who had 26.56%.
Stonebwoy, EL, Medikal and MzVee garnered 13.33%, 4.97%, 3.70% and 0.22% of total votes cast to place third, fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
The 18th edition of the awards scheme was hosted by Anita Erskine and took place at the Accra International Conference Center.
