Help Me To Succeed – Otiko Djaba

The Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, Otiko Afisa Djaba has passionately called on Ghanaians to help her to succeed.

“I’m only about six weeks old as a minister… you need to help me to get it right and I’ll need everybody’s help because it is not possible to handle all these problems alone,” she pleaded Friday in an interview with Francis Abban on Morning Starr.

“We are the basket of all the problems in Ghana, but we don’t have the wherewithal to get it done unless the society is part of it.

So this is going to be a partnership with everybody in our society,” she added.

Pledging to continue the programmes initiated by her predecessor, Nana Oye Lithur, Ms Djaba said one cannot do anything without using the past as a guidance.

“…The Ministry of Gender started a long time ago right from when it was called the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs with Mrs [Gladys] Asmah…we have had a series of ministers there.

My plan is to have meetings with them those who are alive…unfortunately Mrs Asmah has passed away…because they have contributed so magnificently to the ministry,” she said.

“I’m coming to implement what they started…like I said there are so many policies. A lot of work has been done by all the previous ministers who have been there and so we have an arrangement [and] my Chief Director is supposed to contact all of them and then find the days that we can meet so that the past can impact the future,” she added.
