OVER eight thousand residents at Oyoko Traditional Area in the Sekyere Kumawu District in the Ashanti Region have engaged in open defecation, posing health threat to many lives in the area, Today investigations have revealed.
Today’s further investigations showed that, streets, bushes, forests, including cemeteries at Oyoko were sprawled with solid waste made up of faecal matter on the blind side of the traditional and state authorities.
The reason for doing that according to some residents was the lack of toilet facilities which development poses enormous challenge to the attainment towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The insanitary condition of the area Today gathered has become a matter of grave concern to the two assembly members of the electoral areas in Sekyere Kumawu District, Ofori Fareed and Appiah David who blamed the situation on the lack of public toilet facilities in their communities.
Our colleagues even make a mockery of us by calling us “Hon. Boilermen.”
In an interviews with Today, one Madam Beatrice Amponsah said that, “they are very much affected since their only option is to defecate in black polythene bags in their rooms and later throw it away.
To this end, she urged the incoming District Chief Executive (DCE) to get the community places of convenience.
