Hearts of Oak deepened the woes of Ashanti Gold at home with a stunning goal from Paul Acquah to grab the maximum points in week 11 of the Ghana Premier League at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.
The Phobians seemed to have lifted their game since beating Bechem 4-2 at home with a brilliant yet entertaining display against the Miners who are struggling to lift themselves out of relegation zone since the departure of Bashiru Hayford.
Coach Frank Nuttal who was looking for his first back to back victory of the season handed mercurial midfielder, Winful Cobbinah, a dominant role in midfield with skipper, Thomas Abbey, being flanked by the ever impressive Fatau Mohammed and Otoo.
AshGold are enduring their worse season in the last three years and were desperate to get something out of the game. Emmanuel Osei Baffoe got close to opening the score for the Miners in the early minutes of the match but his shot went wide.
Hearst also attacked with intent to seal and early lead with a quick combination between Winful Cobbinah and Eric Nimo but Cosmos Dauda who scored his first goal of the season against Bechem United could not connect properly.
Shafui Mumuni was the next player for AshGold to have a go at the Hearts of Oak team but his shot was too feeble to beat goalkeeper, Samuel Akurugu.
Hearts were denied a penalty in the 65th minute by referee Yaw Ametepeh, but the Phobians got the winner five minutes later after an audacious and an unstoppable strike from Paul Acquah.
AshGold tried everything possible to get back on scoring terms but the away side held on to take all three points on the day.
