A group calling itself National Dream Union has petitioned the Inspector General of Police to investigate what it describes as the sudden demise of late President John Evans Atta Mills.
According to them, the clandestine way the Mahama-led government has treated the cause of death of a public figure like the late President constitute a national security threat.
The late Prof Atta Mills on died on 24th July, 2012 at the 37 Military Hospital months to the general elections. The cause of death has since not been made public.
There has since been speculations of the cause of his death. Whiles some claim he was poisoned other claim he was strangled to death at his office at the Osu Castle, put in a boot of a car and rushed to the hospital.
The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has since denied the allegation insisting that only close relatives and friends know about what actually killed former President Mills.
But the National Dream Union at a news conference in Accra maintained that the late President was a national asset thus the cause of his sudden demise be made public.
Communications Director of the group, Emmanuel Dannasa Appiah said government is being economical with the truth.
“Where is his [Mills] report on cause of death? The video footage as captured on the CCTV cameras on that fateful day. Our understanding from the medical point of view is that when a person dies less than 24 hours on admission at the hospital, a coroner’s inquest on the cause of death has to be issued” he added.
He is convinced the only the matter would be put to rest is for the police to launch an investigations into the matter.
As an immediate measure, Mr. Dannasa Appiah said the group will be petition all embassies in the country to intervene to bring the matter to its logical conclusion.
