Former Black Stars defender Sam Johnson says it is time for Ghana coach Avram Grant to be relieved of his position.
Johnson, capped 45 times by Ghana, believes Grant has not done “anything extraordinary” to set him apart from his predecessor Kwasi Appiah.
The Israeli is sweating after not picking up a win in five games, a run that has seen the Black Stars draw blank against Uganda and Rwanda.
The loss in Alexandria to Egypt’s Pharaohs might have been the last straw and now the former Anderlecht star is calling for his head.
Sam Johnson believes the treatment given to Kwesi Appiah was quite unfair as against what Grant has seen since his tenure.
“It’s been five games without a win for the team. If it had happened to a black coach would the FA have maintained him? Grant takes more money and yet we do not see any proper results,” he stated.
A quick juxtaposition of both coaches credentials as Ghana coach shows that Appiah had done better at this stage than Grant has.
Grant has 9 wins after his first 20 games whereas Appiah had managed 13 by the time his 20th game came by.
Johnson says the facts are there to see and that he is not on a witchhunt on coach Avram Grant.
He said: “Personally I think we should sack him. He has not done anything extraordinary for the team. I do not think he is helping us. He is taking us for granted. Luckily his contract ends soon and I am not sure the FA will sack him and pay him hefty amounts of money. I hope they will not renew it when it ends.”
