Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr. Wilfred Osei, has stated that Avram Grant damaged the senior national team, the Black Stars’ chances in reaching the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Ghana were off to a tough start in their World Cup qualifying group under the guidance of Grant, after a goalless draw in their group opener against Uganda which was followed by a 2-0 away defeat to Egypt.
The Black Stars currently occupy the third place in the group with just one point though they can mathematically qualify for the global showpiece.
“I can tell you, the job of the next Black Stars coach will be very challenging because of the situation Avram Grant has put us in,” Mr. Osei told a Ghanaian local radio station.
“He [Grant] has jeopardised our World Cup chances and it will be difficult for any coach who takes over the Black Stars to be able to navigate his way through,” he concluded.
Over 70 coaches have reportedly applied for the job since Grant parted ways with the Black Stars so far. 1978 African Footballer of the Year, Abdul ‘Golden Boy’ Razak, is the only local man to throw himself into the mix as the race surges on
