The Minister of Airport and Aviation Cecilia Abena Dapaah has revealed to journalists in Kumasi that government has begun fulfilling some of its campaign promises made to Ghanaians in the run up to the 2016 elections.
She observed that since the passage of the appropriation bill which is in line with the 2016 manifesto of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), government has lowered the cost of air fare to 17.5 per cent
“I am happy to tell you that air fare will be lowered by 17.5 per cent so if you are buying your air ticket know that it is NPP government led by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Addo-Addo who has fulfilled his promise of making sure domestic air line fares have been reduced ” , she told select journalists in Kumasi.
“Because air fares were going higher and higher and this government lived up to expectations it abolished the 17.5 per cent VAT”. The minister explained.
The sector Minister stated that in line with policies of government the ministry will open the aviation ministry for both local and international investors in the not too distant future.
Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah also announced plans to introduce new services in the sector christened “air taxi” where passengers can fly from one destination to other for a short period.
She revealed that she will soon tour every airport in the country to familiarize herself with challenges confronting the ministry in those areas and find ways in resolving challenges that have saddled these places.
“There are even colonial air strips that have been abandoned. We are going to look at all of them and make sure we open it for investors”
The minister also stated that the ministry has received several proposals from investors home and abroad to make Tamale and Kumasi Airports international ones.
She observed that the Kumasi airport is not yet an international airport as the previous government claimed indicating that under NPP government it will expand facilities to make it an international one.
