National Service Personnel will from April 1, 2017 receive an increased allowance of GHC 559.04 monthy, this is according to Management of the Scheme.
A statement dated 29th March 2017 and signed by the Acting Executive Director, Mr. Ussif Mustapha indicated that government has finally approved the upward adjustment of the allowances of NSS personnel from the initial amount of GHC 350.00 to GHC 559.04. This implies that personnel already at post for the 2016/2017 period will from April have their allowances increased.
Management of the scheme expressed their gratitude to government for the approval and commended the personnel for exercising patience till the directive was approved.
Background
Government in 2016 released a statement approving an amount of GHC 559.04 a 60% increase on the already existing GHC 350.00, to be paid to National service personnel as monthly allowance. The statement signed by Finance Ministry’s Chief Director, Patrick Nomo indicated that the directive take effect from January 1, 2017.
The Scheme however failed to release the monies in spite of government’s announcement leading to complaints from personnel who alleged the monies were being held back by management of NSS. According to management however, the monies were not released because the increment was not captured in the government’s November supplementary budget.
